Bathhouse Outreach:
For many years Lifelong has been working within the bathhouses and sex clubs in Seattle to provide condoms and educational information. Trained volunteers answer questions about safer sex, hand out safer-sex kits and give people information about HIV testing and STD screening. . This volunteer opportunity requires training; see “How Do I Get To Be A Volunteer” below for details.

General Volunteer Assistance:
If you would like to volunteer to help the program on an administrative level we are looking for volunteers to help us put together our safer-sex kits and other projects. This group meets Thursday evenings from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at Lifelong’s Annex Building at 1161 11th Ave (on the corner of 11th and East Union). For more information on this call our volunteer coordinator at (206) 957-1601. There is no training necessary for this volunteer opportunity.

How Do I Get To Be A Volunteer?
Each volunteer is given ample training in order to be prepared and knowledgeable for doing outreach. The first stop is contacting the Men’s Program (phone: (206) 957-1703 email: mensoutreach@llaa.org) to let us know that you are interested in volunteering. We will then send you a volunteer application for you to fill out and return to us. Then we will let you know when and where our next Community Outreach Volunteer Training will held. At this training you will be given information on the various outreach opportunities that exist, gather information about HIV and STDs as well as risk-reduction information and scenarios to practice your skills on.

The next step would be deciding if you would like to attend the Bathhouse Outreach Training or the Internet Outreach Training. Those are follow-up training on specific policies, guidelines and more in-depth aspects of those styles of outreach. Following those trainings you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with a volunteer within the venue so that you have hands-on experience. After that you will be ready to go solo and volunteer to strengthen our community and help to reinforce safer-sex norms.
